Rise to the occasion
In times of crisis, we're called upon to be bigger
than we've been. Looking at the tragic occurrences
in New Orleans, we must all contemplate what we can
do to support those in need. Those who actually
survived the tragedy likewise have the opportunity
to call upon a bigger part of themselves. They can
choose to collapse into anger and self-pity, or they
can choose to embrace the experience as a chance to
show their heroic nature. Whenever circumstances
press us down, we must consider the nature of our
response and decide whether we have the character to
rise above it all and become heroes.
"Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet.
Only through experience of trial and suffering can
the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition
inspired, and success achieved." -Helen Keller
