Surrender

How do we overcome deeply rooted emotional patterns like depression, anxiety, jealousy, or anger? If you're like me, you've tried many times to use your mind to change your mind, telling yourself not to feel or behave in a particular way. This doesn't work. It's like trying to get the guy in the video game to fix the video game. Our salvation lies in our ability to surrender to something beyond our minds. The spiritual act of surrender is the recognition that in giving up trying to fix yourself, there is a power greater than your mind ready, willing and able to take care of it and to do what you alone can't. Whether you see that "power" as God, the universe, or your own subconscious mind, giving your problem over to that power works. The next time you're struggling in frustration with your inability to break an old pattern, try simply surrendering.

"Surrender does not diminish our power, it enhances it."
