Forgiveness
I've got a close friend whose father is a famous
songwriter. In his heyday, he wrote some of the most
memorable love songs you know...but now, he's a
bitter old man. Despite repeated attempts on the
part of his family, he refuses to speak with his
children or grandchildren. It's tragic. Whatever
transgressions he imagines them guilty of, there's
nothing, short of his stubborn insistence, to
prevent a reconciliation. Instead, he'll soon go to
his grave with a trunk full of music he's written
that embraces what a wonderful world we live
in...while his world is angry and lonely. If the
crafter of our most cherished love songs can be
deluded into withholding forgiveness, how easy is it
for the rest of us to fall prey to a similar fate?
If you're angry at someone, find a way to forgive
them. Don't waste your days burning in resentment.
Life's too short, and your bitterness hurts you more
than them.
"It is easier to forgive an enemy than to forgive
a friend."
-William Blake
