Meditation and
Anxiety
Here's a tricky area. I spent two years doing
intense meditation and found that it actually
accentuated my anxiety. Later, I had an EEG study
done and found that my brain's delta waves (those
associated with sensitivity to the energies around
you) were off the charts. Meditation was making me
so sensitive that I was feeling "on guard" all the
time. I stopped meditating and started taking long
walks in natural settings and found that I was able
to be mindful of nature rather than my own
discomfort. I also
started sleeping more (8-9 hours/night) and letting
myself "zone out" by staring at the walls, watching
TV, going to the movies, and generally giving myself
permission to not "work on myself." If you've been
struggling against your anxiety and depression, try
giving yourself a break and literally doing nothing.
Get
yourself into some pleasant surroundings and relax.
