If you can't get out of it...get into it

A friend told me this wonderful quote, and it applies beautifully to the method I use for conquering anxiety. There are times when we feel feelings we don't want to feel, and try to fight them off only to find ourselves feeling even worse than before. Rather than trying to run away from negative feelings, try going into them more deeply; exploring the quality of the sensations that comprise the feelings. The more you allow yourself to feel the truth of your moment with acceptance, the more quickly the feelings can dissolve. The next time you're besieged with fear, anxiety, depression, or the like, try closing your eyes, getting out of your judging head and into your body. Just breathe into the feelings... and see how quickly they dissolve.
