No time for meandering today. I am, right now — as you read this — about to jump in my car with a huge stack of boxes and drive back up to Vermont. I’m moving!

But I wanted to share something with you.

It’s a question I received from one of our readers. (Do you have a question you would like me to answer? Feel free to ask away in the comments section below.)

It’s this:

“I sell security systems. Even if people wanted to buy right now, I can’t help them. What can I do during this shutdown to keep making money?”

A good question.

Some products can be shipped out by mail or even digitized. And some services can be delivered remotely. But a lot, like yours, can’t.

What then?

My advice is to change tack. Focus on filling your pipeline.

Folks might not be able to buy right now. They might not be able to have you visit their home and set up a system. But they can enter their email address in return for free ebook, or an interactive audit, or a video series.

This can all be done over the internet.

There are plenty of free or inexpensive tools.

Create an online lead-generation funnel. Something that is 100% digital, that provides information and educates prospects on how you can help them.

Then start building your “warm” list and phoning clients for referrals.

Take consistent daily action.

In a few weeks, maybe sooner, you’ll start filling your pipeline with hot qualified leads. And when the shutdown ends and you’re ready to start taking orders, you’ll have a waiting list of people who know, like, and trust you, who understand the unique benefits of your service, and are ready to buy.

The way I see it, it’s like collecting CDs.

You can’t cash them in for a while. But they’re real wealth.

What’s the alternative?

Sit around at home, watching doom and gloom on the news?

Of course, when we’re living under a shadow, taking consistent daily action on something like this — that won’t pay immediately — it’s easier said than done. That’s why it’s important to have a solid support system.

Maybe you already have that right now.

But if not, I urge you to take a look at my new mastermind group.

It’s a way for realtors, insurance brokers, financial advisors, network marketers, entrepreneurs, and other sales professionals to get together every morning, and keep each other focused on taking action that will count.

It’s about using this “downtime” to build our businesses.
